Consiglio episcopale permanente meets in Roma

The Permanent Council met in Rome from September 21 to 23 to discuss reforming the statute and addressing how to transmit faith in modern culture. Led by Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, the council responded to a May 28 invitation from Pope Leo XIV for bishops to build communities that are more free to announce Christ.

The final communique emphasizes the importance of critical thinking to help believers engage with cultural changes. The bishops noted that transmitting faith requires better formation for adults, deeper thought, and a revision of structures. Regarding education, the council called for protecting the capacity to think within schools by ensuring sufficient time for study.

The meeting also marked the 50th anniversary of the convention on evangelization and human promotion. Reflecting on this milestone, Monsignor Enrico Bartoletti noted that laypeople are responsible for bringing Christian thought into environments where public decisions are made and consciences are formed.
