Christian Association of Nigeria Seeks to Unite Environmental Efforts, Commends Catholic Church’s Work
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) is working to unify various Church efforts to address environmental challenges, according to CAN National President Archbishop Daniel Okoh. During a media chat marking the 50th anniversary of the association, Okoh noted that flooding, drought, and changing weather patterns are threatening food security and livelihoods, particularly for poor and vulnerable communities.
Okoh commended the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) for its work through initiatives inspired by the encyclical Laudato Si’. He stated that the CSN has contributed to environmental awareness, advocated for the responsible stewardship of creation, and supported local farmers.
The Archbishop said CAN intends to bring these existing efforts together to increase the impact of the movement. He emphasized that the Church must pair its message of hope with practical service to address the hunger and needs caused by environmental degradation.
