Church leaders urge public to join online anti-dynasty drive

Bishop Elias Ayuban Jr. and several priests joined the launch of an online signature campaign on Wednesday to support legislation that would limit political dynasties. Speaking at the Obispado de Cubao in Quezon City, Ayuban, who also serves as the apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Parañaque, stated that public office should be a trust from the people rather than a family inheritance. He clarified that the movement does not target specific politicians or parties but addresses the issue of concentrated political power.

The Dapat Isa Lang movement launched a digital platform where qualified voters can review a proposed Anti-Political Dynasty Act and submit signatures and documents online. This campaign follows a September 16 Supreme Court ruling stating that Congress has a constitutional duty to pass a law prohibiting political dynasties. The proposed measure would prevent relatives within the fourth civil degree of consanguinity or affinity from holding or seeking elective office at the same time or in succession.

Ayuban noted that the Church aims to form consciences and provide truthful information to encourage responsible participation rather than directing voters on specific candidates.
