Church leaders urges public to join online drive for anti-dynasty law

Bishop Elias Ayuban Jr. of Cubao and several priests launched an online signature campaign on Wednesday to support a law curbing political dynasties. Speaking at the Obispado de Cubao in Quezon City, Ayuban stated that public office is a trust from the people and should not be treated as a family inheritance. He clarified that the campaign focuses on the issue of concentrated political power rather than attacking specific politicians or families.

The Dapat Isa Lang movement created a digital platform where qualified voters can review the proposed Anti-Political Dynasty Act and submit signatures and documents online. This effort follows a September 16 Supreme Court ruling stating that Congress has a constitutional duty to pass a law prohibiting political dynasties. The proposed legislation would prevent relatives within the fourth civil degree of consanguinity or affinity from holding or seeking elective office at the same time or in succession.

Ayuban said the Church aims to form consciences and provide truthful information to encourage responsible participation in politics for the common good.
