Archbishop José Ángel Saiz Meneses ordains 5 new ministers in Sevilla

Archbishop José Ángel Saiz Meneses ordained one priest and four deacons during a ceremony at the Seville Cathedral on Saturday, September 26.

The newly ordained priest is Pedro Lu. The four new deacons are Carlos Javier Corento, 34, from Mairena del Aljarafe; Elder João Tavares, 26, from Cabo Verde; Javier Garrido, 26, from Dos Hermanas; and Fabio Martarelli, 50, from Osimo, Italy. Corento, Tavares, and Garrido attended from the Metropolitan Seminary, while Martarelli attended from the Redemptoris Mater Seminary.

During the homily, Archbishop Saiz Meneses stated that the ministry received is a grace, an election, and a mission rather than the completion of a personal project. He noted that the Holy Spirit acts through the imposition of hands and the prayer of ordination to sacramentally mark the lives of the men.

Bishop Ildo Augusto dos Santos Lopes of Mindelo, Cabo Verde, concelebrated the Mass alongside auxiliary bishop Teodoro León, Francisco J. Ortiz, seminary rector Andrés Ybarra, and Redemptoris Mater Seminary rector Antonio Escribano.
