CNBB Norte 1 holds 53rd Regional Assembly

97 members of local churches are meeting at the Centro de Formação Maromba in Manaus from September 14 to 17 for the 53rd Regional Assembly of the CNBB Norte 1. The participants will define regional guidelines to guide evangelization efforts.

Cardinal Leonardo Steiner, the archbishop of Manaus and president of the CNBB Norte 1 region, opened the assembly with a mass. During the service, he described the cross as a sign of hope and encouraged participants to act as signs of God's presence despite human weaknesses.

During the first day of the program, regional secretary Dom José Altevir and executive secretary Ir. Rose Bertoldo presented a report covering the presidency's activities from the last 4 years. To supplement this report, auxiliary bishop Dom Zenildo Lima da Silva of the Archdiocese of Manaus noted the significant presence of religious life, particularly women, throughout the region and the importance of assemblies held within each of the 9 local churches.
