Bishop António Luciano of Viseu stated that the rising cost of living is placing an overwhelming burden on many families. He noted that inflation in food, housing, energy, and transportation costs is making it difficult for people to manage their monthly expenses.

The bishop observed that while some economic rules have encouraged growth, they have not supported full human development or equity. He said this lack of fairness has created new forms of poverty. According to Luciano, current economic and social realities, alongside global conflicts, are leaving deep marks on society.

He highlighted specific groups struggling under these conditions, including elderly people living on insufficient pensions, parents worried about their children's futures, and young people delaying life plans due to a lack of stability.
