Arezzo to host exhibition on San Francesco
Arezzo is hosting an exhibition titled "L’immagine di Francesco – Dal Medioevo al Novecento" to trace the iconography of St. Francis of Assisi. The exhibition runs from October 3, 2026, through January 10, 2027, at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea and the former church of Sant’Ignazio.
Organized in cooperation with local dioceses, Franciscan communities, and the Ministry of Culture, the display features nearly 80 works including paintings, sculptures, ancient volumes, miniatures, and temperas. The collection includes pieces by artists such as Sandro Botticelli, Beato Angelico, Giorgio Vasari, and Gio Ponti. Most of the works originate from the local region.
Curator Cristina Acidini leads the exhibition with a scientific committee chaired by Carlo Sisi. The event coincides with the eighth centenary of the death of St. Francis, which falls on October 4.
