Dates announced for Sydney’s 2028 International Eucharistic Congress

Bishop Richard Umbers announced that the 54th International Eucharistic Congress, known as Eucharist28, will take place in Sydney from September 24 to October 1, 2028. A theological symposium will precede the event from September 20 to 22 for those seeking a deeper study of the Blessed Sacrament.

The congress is expected to attract pilgrims from Australia and abroad. While Pope Leo XIV has not formally responded to an invitation from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, the pope stated in February that he intends to attend.

Organizers have already released resources including videos, podcasts, and reflections for parishes, schools, and communities. Bishop Umbers encouraged people to begin preparing through their local pastoral communities and to sign up online for updates and volunteer opportunities.
