Days after Pope Leo’s visit, riots erupt in Paris

Riots that began in the Paris region on September 17 have spread across France, occurring shortly after Pope Leo XIV completed an apostolic visit to the country from September 25 to 28.

During a demonstration by high school and university students on October 6, Gabrielle Cathala, a member of Parliament with La France Insoumise, stood between French police and protesters forming a human chain during a blockade of Sciences Po university in Paris.
