Deacons gather in prayer and fellowship

About 90 permanent deacons from the Diocese of Camden gathered at the Church of the Holy Family in Sewell on Sept. 19 for their annual convocation. The event included a Mass celebrated by Bishop Joseph Williams and focused on prayer, fellowship, and renewal.

The convocation theme, Bridges of Service, highlighted the role of deacons in connecting individuals and communities. During a welcome prayer, Deacon Michael Vitarelli of Christ the Redeemer Parish in Atco described deacons as servants working alongside the bishop and priests within families, workplaces, schools, and hospitals.

Bishop Williams spoke to the group in Aquin Hall, expressing gratitude for the ministry and the servant hearts of the deacons. Retired Deacon Michael McDonaugh of Our Lady of Peace Parish in Williamstown noted that the gathering provided an opportunity to share stories and support fellow deacons.
