Diecéze of Ostrava-Opava to hold Transitus

The Diocese of Ostrava-Opava will hold Transitus services at several locations this Saturday. The devotion commemorates the transition of St. Francis of Assisi from earthly life to heaven.

The services will take place in darkness, illuminated only by the flames of candles held by the faithful. During the rite, participants remember the final moments of St. Francis by reading excerpts from his life and writings, singing songs related to the saint, and reciting Psalm 142.

These Saturday services precede the feast of St. Francis, which will be celebrated in various parishes on Sunday through liturgies and accompanying events. The diocese also noted a pilgrimage for families and spiritual vocations scheduled for the weekend.
