Diocesan staff honors Mariyam Francis with award for excellence in catechetical leadership

Diocesan staff named Mariyam Francis the recipient of the 2026 Rosemarie “Chick” McGinty Award for Excellence in Catechetical Ministry. Francis serves as a parish catechetical leader at Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish in Hamilton.

During the presentation, Francis noted that the award serves as an affirmation of her ministry. She expressed that the appreciation from fellow catechists was particularly meaningful. Francis stated that her goal is to serve the Lord rather than seek recognition.

Francis emphasized the importance of strengthening catechetical programs to help families and students build personal relationships with Jesus Christ. She noted that modern technology and digital influences present daily challenges to faith practice and family time.
