Diocese of Campos highlights Mosteiro de São Bento's cultural and religious heritage

The Diocese of Campos highlighted the cultural and religious heritage of the Mosteiro de São Bento, noting its role in shaping the local identity of Campos dos Goytacazes. Since arriving in the region in 1648, monks have contributed to the area's development and the establishment of the Catholic Church by building 36 churches and initiating catechesis.

Edvar Junior stated that the monastery serves as a guardian of the history and memory of the local community rather than just being a religious monument. The site includes an architectural complex consisting of a church, a residence for the religious, and an archaeological site containing a cemetery.

The monastery also holds significance for local families through the educational work of the monks. Dom Bonifácio Plum founded the Colégio Santa Teresinha, an institution that educated multiple generations in the region.
