Diocese of La Guaira remembers earthquake victims

Young people and families from the Diocese of La Guaira gathered at Plaza Jerusalén in Maiquetía on Saturday, September 26, to pray and remember those killed in the earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24. The group celebrated the Eucharist and sang to honor young Catholics who were members of local parishes, youth groups, and pastoral activities.

Crystal Olivo, a member of the Diocesan Secretariat for the Youth Ministry, told Aid to the Church in Need that the community wants to remember their friends for how they lived rather than the tragedy that ended their lives. Olivo, who lost her two sisters, Chantal and Clara, in the earthquake, described her sisters as reflections of holiness. She noted that Chantal was active in the choir, catechesis, and youth groups.
