Diocese of Milano honors 32 saints

The Diocese of Milano is celebrating the memory of 32 saints who served as early bishops of the Ambrosian Church. This single celebration honors the pastors who guided the diocese from its origins until the mid-eighth century, when Bishop Natale was buried in the church of San Giorgio in Palazzo.

Among these figures, the Church venerates Eustorgio, Dionigi, Ambrogio, and Simpliciano through separate celebrations.

Tradition offers different accounts of the origins of Anatalo, the first name on the list of Milanese bishops. One tradition states he was a disciple of Saint Peter and was sent to lead the Church in Milan. Another tradition identifies him as a companion of Saint Barnabas, who appointed him bishop of both Milan and Brescia. Anatalo was followed by bishops Caio, Castriziano, Calimero, Mona, Mirocle, Materno, and Protaso.
