Diocese of Milano remembers Sandro Mazzola

The Diocese of Milano released a tribute to Sandro Mazzola following his death on Friday, September 18, at the age of 83. The former Inter Milan and Italian national team player was recognized for his significant career and his ability to succeed despite the pressure of his family legacy.

Mazzola followed the path of his father, Valentino, a captain of the Grande Torino team who died in the 1949 Superga air disaster. The tribute noted that Mazzola overcame comparisons and prejudices to establish his own identity on the field. While he initially sought to emulate the playing style of Alfredo Di Stefano, he eventually became a prolific goalscorer under coach Helenio Herrera, earning the title of Serie A top scorer during the 1960s.
