Pope Leo XIV is preparing for a trip to France, though the Holy See has declined a request from French President Emmanuel Macron to accompany the Pope during a visit to Notre Dame Cathedral. According to La Croix, the Vatican also requested to scale back a European Day event in Metz scheduled for September 28, after Macron invited representatives from all 27 European Union states to the gathering.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin will be in New York from September 19 to 26 for the United Nations General Assembly. Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher will accompany the Pope, following his participation in an assembly for the International Atomic Energy Agency between September 16 and 18. During the trip, the Pope is scheduled to deliver a speech at UNESCO.
