Dom Odilo Pedro presides over Mass at 47th Ecclesial Assembly

Cardinal Odilo Pedro Scherer, the archbishop of São Paulo, presided over the Mass opening the second day of the 47th Ecclesial Assembly of the CNBB Regional South 1 at the Itaici Monastery in Indaiatuba, Brazil. The celebration included the auxiliary bishops of the Archdiocese of São Paulo as main concelebrants and marked the 50th anniversary of Cardinal Scherer's priesthood and 25 years of his episcopate.

During the Mass, Cardinal Scherer expressed gratitude to God for his years of service to the Church and thanked his fellow bishops for their shared work and learning over his 24 years of participating in Regional Assemblies.

Father Antonio de Lisboa Lustosa Lopes from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo led sessions based on the DGAE 2026-2032 and the final document of the 2021-2024 Synod. These sessions addressed how the Church can communicate human dignity within digital culture and social action. Father Lopes identified listening, the Word of God, and ecclesial belonging as essential elements for effective communication.
