Don Felipe, el rescatista que encontró a Dios entre los escombros

Felipe Durán Emiliano, an instructor for the Topos Azteca rescue organization, shared his experiences responding to the devastating earthquake that struck Mexico City on September 19, 1985.

Durán Emiliano, who has spent 50 years responding to catastrophes, recalled working in Tlatelolco, the Roma neighborhood, and the Regis building. He also assisted at Hospital Juárez, where a doctor who was his friend passed away. He described the city as being in a state of collapse during the disaster.

The instructor noted that witnessing such tragedies has increased his sensitivity to the suffering of others, particularly children. He stated that his immediate reaction to the destruction was to apply his training to find survivors among the rubble.
