Don Luigi Di Liegro: una vita spesa per i piccoli e i poveri

Pope Leo announced the opening of a cause for the beatification of Luigi Di Liegro during a meeting of the Diocese of Rome at the Lateran Basilica. Di Liegro was the founder and first director of the Caritas of Rome and established several social services for the city's most vulnerable residents.

His work focused on social justice and networking between different organizations to address social emergencies. He helped facilitate early cooperation between groups such as the Comunità di Capodarco, the Esercito della Salvezza, the Comunità di Sant’Egidio, and the Missionarie della Carità of Mother Teresa.

Di Liegro founded various active works in Rome, including the hostel on via Marsala near Termini Station and a medical clinic for immigrants without residence permits in Ostia that opened in 1983. His other projects include the Emporio della solidarietà in Ponte Casilino, soup kitchens, shelters, and listening centers. His remains were moved from the Verano cemetery to the Basilica dei Santi XII Apostoli on October 1, 2025.
