Don Luigi Scarlino calls Rozzano vigilance 'ronde, not presidi di legalità'

Don Luigi Scarlino, who leads youth ministry for the Discepoli di Emmaus pastoral community, criticized recent neighborhood patrols in Rozzano as vigilante rounds rather than efforts to uphold the law. He stated that these actions do not serve as outposts of legality but instead function as unofficial rounds.

The criticism follows several incidents of private justice in the Aler neighborhood. On September 16, a woman was attacked by a man of foreign origin and subsequently beaten by bystanders. On the evening of September 17, Carabinieri identified two brothers, aged 32 and 33, for assaulting an intoxicated man of foreign origin. These events prompted residents to patrol the streets to identify and report suspected drug dealers.

Scarlino suggested that instead of hunting foreigners or drug dealers, the community should work with authorities through organized tables to address these problems structurally. The Ministry of the Interior has classified Rozzano as a red zone since April, requiring increased police presence.
