Bishop Mario ordained Diego Bassi and Filippo Vattakkattil as priests on September 17, 2026, at the Massa Cathedral. The ceremony took place on the feast of the stigmata of Saint Francis and was attended by many faithful, priests, and deacons.

During his homily, Bishop Mario told the new priests that they would likely feel inadequate or wounded by their ministry or life at times. He noted that the liturgical model for their priesthood is not one without scars, but one that arises from being marked. He compared their future experiences to Saint Francis, describing him as a man whose wounds and poverty became a sign of Christ's love for the Church.
