Dutch Catholic organizations invite parishes to observe Prisoner's Day

The Rooms-Katholiek Justitiepastoraat and eight other organizations are inviting Dutch parishes to observe Prisoner's Day on Sunday, October 11, 2026. The organizers ask pastoral communities to use liturgical celebrations to recognize people in detention, their families, and victims of crime.

The theme "Zo genaamd" highlights the individual dignity, names, and personal stories of every person in custody. The participating groups intend to connect local church communities with the faith communities that gather inside prisons every Sunday.

Approximately 9,000 men and women are currently in detention in the Netherlands. The day serves as an invitation to pray for their spiritual freedom, repentance, healing, and future prospects.
