Monsignor Giorgio Brancaleoni dies

Monsignor Giorgio Brancaleoni died on the morning of September 28, 2026, at a hospital in Bologna, according to the Diocese of Albenga–Imperia.

Born in Alassio on June 18, 1959, Brancaleoni studied at the Diocesan Seminary and was ordained a priest on October 7, 1983, at the Albenga Cathedral by Bishop Alessandro Piazza. He served as the Vicar General of the diocese from July 1, 2003, to September 14, 2015.

His previous roles within the diocese included serving as bishop's chancellor from 1996 to 2003, vice chancellor from 1987 to 1996, and episcopal master of ceremonies from 1998 to 2004. He also acted as the rector of the bishop's seminary from 2014 to 2015 and as the episcopal vicar for consecrated life from 2009 to 2012. Additionally, Brancaleoni managed the diocesan cultural heritage office, directed the diocesan archives, and served as a canon at the Albenga Cathedral.
