A writer for the Diocese of Port of Spain criticized how Church leaders treat young people when mistakes occur. Writing under the name Trying My Best, the author stated that while young people are encouraged to lead and serve, they are often met with conclusions rather than conversations when misunderstandings arise.

The author described a recent experience where they were held accountable for an uncompleted task and for work that was never assigned to them. According to the report, there was little communication regarding task assignments or deadlines. Instead of receiving a request for clarification, the author received a formal letter from a Church official one month later. The author claimed the letter assumed their responsibility and failure before hearing their account and used an admonishing, condescending tone to explain the basics of accountability.
