Francisco Ferreira, the president of the environmental organization Zero, stated that caring for nature is necessary to care for others and live a Catholic lifestyle. Speaking in Lisbon, Ferreira described the environmental crisis as a crisis of relationship between individuals and the world.

Ferreira, who began defending the Arrábida region at age 10, expressed a desire for more forceful activism. He identified the encyclical Laudato si as a true revolution.
