El 85% de las mujeres que quieren abortar, desisten tras ser escuchadas y apoyadas

More than 85% of women who considered an abortion decided to continue their pregnancies after receiving support and being heard, according to data released by the solidarity network RedMadre.

The network reported that 60,111 women requested assistance in 2025. Of those, 85.40% chose to proceed with their pregnancies after finding help for difficulties caused by gestation. Most women seeking aid were between 30 and 39 years old, nearly 80% were foreign nationals, and 69.98% were unemployed.

The primary needs identified by the women included information and guidance, which 100% requested, followed by emotional support at 56.19%, help with post-abortion trauma at 37.60%, and assistance in finding employment at 24.19%. Regarding material needs, 51.83% required diapers and 28.33% needed food products. Additionally, 437 women reported suffering abuse, with 63% experiencing psychological abuse and 20.82% experiencing physical abuse.

Amaya Azcona, the director general of the RedMadre Foundation, stated that the organization has accompanied 502,889 mothers over its 18 years of operation. Azcona noted that the data shows public support for pregnant women, particularly those in vulnerable situations, is insufficient. RedMadre currently operates through 37 associations and more than 50 locations in Spain.
