Archbishop Florencio Roselló Avellanas celebrates Eucharist at Pamplona prison

Archbishop Florencio Roselló Avellanas celebrated Mass at the Pamplona prison on September 24 to mark the feast of Our Lady of Mercy, the patron saint of prison staff and workers.

During the service, Roselló told inmates that life mistakes do not define a person's identity. He referenced a previous statement by Pope Leo XIV during a visit to the Brians 1 prison, noting that individuals are more than their errors, falls, or crimes.

Roselló, a Mercedarian religious brother, spoke about his long history of working with incarcerated people. He told the congregation that he has spent much of his priesthood committed to those in prison, often sharing their joys and struggles. He encouraged the inmates to look toward life outside the prison walls, noting that opportunities for family and new beginnings exist once they are released.
