The Lepanto Institute reports that Monsignor Robert Boxie III, recently appointed auxiliary bishop of Washington by Pope Leo XIV, has donated personal funds to Democratic politicians and fundraising platforms.

According to an investigation by the Lepanto Institute using Federal Election Commission records, Boxie made two contributions to ActBlue, a platform that channels donations to Democratic candidates. He donated 100 dollars in 2019 and 50 dollars in 2020. Additionally, on September 24, 2025, Boxie donated 250 dollars to the congressional campaign of Democrat Amanda Edwards in Houston. In his donation filing, Boxie identified himself as a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Washington.

The report notes that Edwards is supported by Emily’s List, an organization that promotes women candidates who support abortion rights. Edwards' platform includes promises to codify federal protections for abortion access.
