El obispo Edmund Whalen celebra la Misa patronal en Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes en el Bronx

Bishop Edmund Whalen celebrated a Spanish Mass for the patronal feast of Our Lady of Mercy in the Bronx on Sunday, September 20. The Mass was part of a novena held by the parish from September 15 to September 23.

During the 11 a.m. liturgy, Whalen told the congregation that the celebration honored the parish and their identity as children of Our Lady of Mercy. He thanked the faithful for attending the service despite the rain.

The parish will hold a solemn day of celebration on September 24 to honor the Virgin Mary as Mother of Mercy, the defender of the poor and the oppressed. The feast honors the Mercedarian Order, which was founded by Saint Peter Nolasco in 1218 to rescue Christian captives.
