El Papa vuelve a citar a un obispo español como modelo

Pope Leo XIV has proposed Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo as a model for bishops in America in a letter marking the third centenary of the saint's canonization. The Pope previously cited the bishop during his trip to Spain, where he described Mogrovejo as an example of combining prayer with a commitment to justice against the corruption and abuses of his time.

The Pope connected his own experience of learning what it means to be a pastor through the faith of the people in Peru to the ministry of Mogrovejo. He noted that the saint traveled from afar to a land he eventually embraced through pastoral charity.

The Pope urged bishops to follow the saint's example of ensuring the Gospel is announced in local languages. He asked prelates to meet their communities personally, listen to their people, and seek out those who rarely have the opportunity to approach a bishop.
