El Vaticano se suma al «Día Internacional de la Paz» de la ONU con una instalación en San Pedro

The Vatican is hosting an international sound installation titled Sounds of Loss in the atrium of St. Peter's Basilica to observe the United Nations International Day of Peace. Created by German filmmaker Philip Gröning, the installation features 1,096 individually recorded sounds consisting of clicks, knocks, and other brief noises. Each sound symbolically represents a person killed in armed conflicts.

The installation will play these sounds at irregular intervals for 49 hours to cover the International Day of Peace across all global time zones. According to Vatican News, the sounds will play on average once every 2.62 minutes. While the Vatican report specifies 1,096 sounds, the official Sounds of Loss website describes the international project as a composition of approximately 1,500 sounds. The project uses statistics suggesting between 550 and 700 people die daily as a direct result of war.

Two Holy See dicasteries and the Fabric of Saint Peter are supporting the installation in the Vatican. This project is part of a simultaneous global event taking place in various churches, cathedrals, museums, and other institutions.
