Embrace ‘deep spiritual bonds’ between Jews and Catholics, says USCCB chair in Yom Kippur message

Bishop Joseph C. Bambera of Scranton, Pennsylvania, sent a video message to the Jewish community to mark Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. As chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs, Bambera extended his warmest wishes to Jewish people observing the holiday from sunset on Sept. 20 to nightfall on Sept. 21.

In his message, Bambera urged Catholics to reject antisemitism and recognize the deep spiritual bonds shared between Jews and Catholics. He noted that the themes of repentance and reconciliation central to Yom Kippur also resonate deeply with Catholics.
