Ethics professor José Ramón Ayllón argues that current educational curricula focus on the mechanics of sex while neglecting the concept of love. In his book Homo Legens, Ayllón suggests that affective-sexual education lacks instruction on the distinction between desire and affection.

Under LOMLOE and Real Decreto 217/2022, sexual education is integrated across subjects including Biology y Geología, Ciencias Sociales, and Educación en Valores. Classroom materials prioritize anatomy, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, consent, and diversity. Ayllón contends that the system avoids teaching love because it cannot be measured through academic rubrics.
