Ethiopian Catholic Bishop Appeals for Peace and Responsible Leadership in New Year Message

Bishop Tesfaselassie Medhin of the Catholic Eparchy of Adigrat is calling for peace and responsible leadership in Ethiopia through a New Year message. According to an Agenzia Fides report, the bishop urged political leaders to serve all citizens, particularly the vulnerable, by emulating the leadership style of Christ.

Bishop Medhin stated that leaders have a moral duty to protect peaceful people, defend human dignity, and pursue reconciliation. He also called on officials to respond to emergencies caused by drought and famine, create opportunities for young people, and address ongoing challenges such as conflict, displacement, poverty, and unemployment.

The message follows the Ethiopian New Year, Enkutatash, which was celebrated on September 11. This date marks the beginning of the year 2019 on the Ethiopian calendar.
