Father Adrian Mantykiewicz delivers homily after convent attack

Father Adrian Mantykiewicz called for love and forgiveness during a homily on Sept. 26 at the Benedictine Abbey in Jarosław, Poland. Speaking with a visible head bandage and bruising, Mantykiewicz addressed the congregation two days after a deadly knife attack at the convent.

The attack, which resulted in the death of Father Stanislaw Zbojniewicz, left four others hospitalized. Father Marek Pienkowski remains in serious condition. Police arrested a 31-year-old Ukrainian man in connection with the incident.

Mantykiewicz urged the community not to blame Ukrainian people for the actions of a single individual. He noted that the abbey, located near the border with Ukraine, has supported many people fleeing the war between Russia and Ukraine. He stated that the evil was committed by one specific person responsible for his own actions.
