Conference in Rome remembers Father Gabriele Amorth

A conference in Rome on September 16 marked the 10th anniversary of the death of Father Gabriele Amorth. Held at the Basilica of St. Mary Queen of Apostles, the event titled “Father Gabriele Amorth: The Living Legacy for the Church and Our Time” focused on his humanity, spirituality, and ability to communicate the faith.

The International Association of Exorcists, the Society of St. Paul, and the magazine Famiglia Cristiana organized the gathering. Speakers included Father Francesco Bamonte, vice president of the International Association of Exorcists, who reviewed the stages of Amorth's life. Father Marcello Lanza, an exorcist from the Diocese of Acerra, spoke as a scholar of Amorth's life. Other presenters included Father Aldo Buonaiuto, a coordinator for the Pope John XXIII Community, and Father Stefano Stimamiglio, director of Famiglia Cristiana.

The discussions portrayed Amorth as a priest who dedicated his life to exorcism while also offering insights into mysticism and broader spiritual dimensions. According to Father Bamonte, Amorth was appointed an exorcist for the Diocese of Rome by Cardinal Ugo Poletti in 1985 after training under Venerable Father Candido Amantini. Amorth died in Rome on September 16, 2016.
