Fátima: Papa envia mensagem à Bênção dos Capacetes, defendendo «cultura do cuidado» e da segurança rodoviária

Pope Leo XIV sent a message to the thousands of participants at the 11th Blessing of the Helmets pilgrimage at the Sanctuary of Fátima on September 20, 2026. The Pope called for the promotion of road safety and a culture of care, encouraging motorcyclists to show fraternity and prudence during their daily travels.

The message was sent through the Apostolic Nuncio in Portugal, Archbishop Andrés Carrascosa Coso, and was read by the rector of the sanctuary, Father Carlos Cabecinhas. The text stated that by placing their lives and families under the protection of the Virgin Mary, participants renew a commitment to making roads places of respect for life and encounter.

In his message, Leo XIV greeted motorcyclists from Portugal and other nations, as well as emergency services and security forces. The Pope expressed prayers for those killed or injured in road accidents, their families, and those dealing with the consequences of such events. He also offered his blessing to the organizers, volunteers, and those working to protect life on the roads.
