Floods in Bihar and the SCN Response

Members of the Patna Archdiocese met at St. Xavier’s B.Ed. College in Patna on Sept. 7, 2026, to organize relief for families affected by rising floodwaters in Bihar. Sisters Elsy Kotteriyil and Priyanka Murmu joined representatives from various religious congregations and institutions to assess conditions in flooded areas and coordinate a three-phase response.

The relief effort began with a collection of biscuits, soap, jaggery, salt, sattu, and water purification tablets. Nazareth Academy in Mokama and Gaya, Holy Family Hospital in Kurji, Arunodaya, and the Provincial House participated in gathering these supplies. Staff, students, parents, and sisters from the Nazareth Academy schools worked to collect items, while sisters and trainees from Arunodaya sorted and packed them.

As floodwaters recede, Holy Family Hospital plans to hold medical camps for those in need. The collected supplies have already begun reaching affected families.
