For 650 år siden vendte paven tilbage til Rom

Pope Gregory XI began his journey back to Rome 650 years ago on September 13, 1376, according to Vatican News. The Pope left Avignon to return to the city after being convinced of the need to do so by Catherine of Siena.

Catherine of Siena, a young woman without political power or influence, played a central role in persuading the Pope to return. A monument dedicated to her stands near St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, which attracts tourists because of its perspective that makes it appear as though she is kissing the dome of the basilica.
