France in flames? What the cameras don’t show
Cerith Gardiner reports that France recently experienced simultaneous technical disruptions and civil unrest. While the mobile network provider Orange reported a major technical incident that took its network down across the country, French government websites were also taken offline due to a serious cybersecurity threat.
These digital disruptions occurred alongside large scale demonstrations. On Saturday, approximately 550,000 people participated in street protests. Although most participants remained peaceful, the demonstrations were marked by violence, including looting, fires, and the destruction of shops.
