France’s religious leaders appeal for peace and sustained dialogue

Pope Leo XIV called on religious leaders to seek peace and friendship through dialogue during an address at the Robert Schuman Center in Metz. Speaking to representatives of various religious traditions, the Pope stated that people of faith have a responsibility to show that meeting others and forging friendships is possible despite borders.

The Pope described dialogue as a way to express identity through truth and openness to others rather than a tool for diplomacy or tolerance. He noted that the goal of such interaction is to establish harmony and peace. He also cautioned that using God's name to justify oppression or violence is incorrect.
