Franciscan Sisters Mark 18 Years in Angola, Highlight Growing Vocations and Education Mission

The Franciscan Sisters of Ingolstadt marked 18 years of mission in Angola during celebrations held Sunday, September 20, at St. Zeno Parish in the Luanda Archdiocese. The congregation, which is also celebrating its 750th anniversary this year, began its work in Angola in 2008 with two sisters from Brazil.

Superior General Sr. Maria Clara Massaranduba de Freitas told ACI Africa that the congregation's ministry has expanded to include healthcare, education, parish pastoral work, spiritual accompaniment, and service to vulnerable people. She noted that the jubilee is being observed in Angola, Brazil, and Germany.

Sr. Maria Clara highlighted the growth of local vocations as a source of hope, specifically mentioning four Angolan women currently studying at the University of São Paulo in Brazil. The congregation currently has two postulants and seven novices.
