Francisco Romero named counselor of Dicastery for Evangelization

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Francisco Julián Romero Galván as a counselor for the Dicastery for Evangelization to oversee matters related to shrines.

Romero is a priest from the archdiocese of Mérida-Badajoz and serves as the director of the Secretariat of the Episcopal Commission for Evangelization for the Spanish Episcopal Conference. He previously directed the Secretariat for the 2025 Jubilee and helped prepare the pastoral team for the Pope's visit to Spain in June 2026.

The appointment aims to promote evangelizing pastoral work within shrines, helping them become spaces for encountering Christ and practicing faith. The Dicastery for Evangelization coordinates the pastoral care of shrines and pilgrimages while supporting the spread of the Word of God and the growth of new local churches worldwide.
