Friday Knights Hunger Bowl raises over $50,000 for St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry

The Friday Knights Hunger Bowl committee raised more than $50,100 for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry during its 10th annual event. Co-chair Mark Hackert confirmed on Sept. 18 that the total met the committee's goal.

The funds include more than $5,600 collected during a football game on Sept. 11 between Evansville Mater Dei and Reitz Memorial High Schools. Reitz Memorial won the game 52-21.

Over the past 10 years, the initiative has raised more than $210,000 through contributions from local Catholic grade and high schools, 10 Knights of Columbus councils, 4 Degree Knights of Columbus assembly, and the Columbiettes auxiliary. Co-chair John Sandwell noted that the first year's goal was $3,000.
