Funchal: Bispo inaugura ano pastoral e apela à mobilização das comunidades católicas

Bishop Nuno Brás presided over the opening Mass for the new pastoral year in the Diocese of Funchal on September 27, 2026. During the celebration at the Funchal Cathedral, the bishop called for laypeople to participate actively in Church structures by offering their time, skills, and knowledge to help their communities grow.

Brás identified several specific areas where parishes need volunteers, including serving as catechists, joining choir groups, enrolling in confraternities, or participating in economic and pastoral councils. He stated that these roles help parishes grow in authentic Christian life rather than just in numbers.

The bishop also addressed young people regarding total consecration and spoke to diocesan priests, whom he described as the primary workers within the Church structure.
