Funeral Arrangements Set for Deacon George Chemaly

St. Mary, Mother of God Parish will hold funeral services for Deacon George Chemaly, who died September 21 at age 64. Visitation is scheduled for September 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Mary, Mother of God Church in Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the church on September 26 at 10 a.m., followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.

Deacon Chemaly was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1962 and received his Catholic education there before earning an economics degree from American University of Beirut in 1986. After volunteering with the Lebanese Red Cross during the Lebanese civil war, he immigrated to the United States with his family in 2008. He prepared for the permanent diaconate at Georgian Court University in Lakewood.

Bishop David M. O’Connell ordained Chemaly on May 21, 2022, at St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral in Trenton. Before his ordination, Chemaly expressed his desire to serve the people of God and proclaim the Good News.
