Gen Z singers remake ‘Ole Time Days’

Gen Z singers Francis McComie and Jayda Ramjattan are releasing a remake of the song "Ole Time Days" on Republic Day, September 24. The video for the remake premieres to introduce the song, originally written and performed by Richard "Nappy" Mayers, to a younger generation.

The 14-year-old McComie and 16-year-old Ramjattan recorded the track late last year at Jamm Productions with producer Keith Israel. McComie, who plays guitar on the track, noted that he had to practice his vocals extensively because his voice was changing during the process.

McComie's father, Anthony McComie, said the decision to cover the song developed through discussions with his uncle, Dennis McComie, and Levi Mayers, the son of the original songwriter. The project also involved discussing the history of the 1990 coup, which occurred shortly after the song was written. The recording was first played by Alex Assing of WEFM 96.1.
