Getting In over Your Head

Musician and nature writer Jonathan Meiburg has released a new album with his band Shearwater titled The New World. The project took more than four years to record at studios located in Brooklyn, Berlin, and Texas.

The album features various musical styles and guest contributors, including spoken-word parts from Laurie Anderson, woodwind player Doug Wieselman, and the Malian percussion group Ngoni ba. These recordings introduce new sounds to Meiburg's previous work, such as saxophone solos and jazz-influenced grooves.

Meiburg, who also writes about ornithology and nature, is currently in Oslo for the SCAR Open Science Conference. He is conducting research for a forthcoming book regarding the life of birds.
